100th Post

Wow - those posts really rack up. Why, it seemed like it was only April 16th when I realized I was at my 50th post.

This has got me thinking about all things 100. For instance...

* An East Sussex centenarian secured a 25-year mortgage for 200,000 pounds, paying 958 pounds a month, according to the Times Online (March 25, 2007.) At 102, he will be handing out invitations to his mortgage burning party when he turns 127.

* Going alphabetically, the 100th song recorded by The Beatles is "I Just Don't Understand", a cover of a Wilkin/Westberry tune. John Lennon sang this on "Live at the BBC", recorded on July 16, 1963.
"Well you call me your baby
when you're holding my hand
Oh how you can hurt me
I just can't understand"

* The 100th color in Crayola's palette is Beaver! This is the 4th new color listed after the 1998 new additions joined 1993's 96 colors.

* At the ripe old age of 13, Mozart composed his 100th work, Serenade No. 1 in D Major with March K. 62 (Cassation - Finalmusik.)

* By 100 AD, European lions were extinct.

* The Hebrew calendar had already reached the year 3860 by 100 AD.

* On my 100th day of life, which occurred on Feb. 19, 1965, I was 3 months and 8 days old.

* A centurian was a professional officer of the Roman army, in command of a group of soldiers numbering 100 (or sometimes 80.) He needed to be at least 30 years old, be able to read, and have excellent political/social recommendations. He rode into battle on horseback, fighting alongside his legionaries.

* C = 100 (from the Latin 'centum', or one hundred)

* Rosarian Ralph Moore, hybridizer of more than 300 miniature roses, celebrated his 100th birthday on January 14, 2007. And he's still developing new types of roses today in Visalia, California.

* Going alphabetically, Drew Barrymore is the 100th person with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She received hers on February 3, 2004 and it sits at 6925 Hollywood Boulevard.

* The 100th episode of "I Love Lucy" opened Season 4 with "The Business Manager". Ricky hires a business manager to get Lucy's household budget in order, sending Lucy into a frenzy of schemes to earn quick cash.

* By 100 AD the compilation of the Kama Sutra was underway in India.

* The United States currently has over 55,000 centenarians among its population.

* On July 12th or 13th, 100 BC Julius Caesar was born.

* Actor Michael Caine's 100th film credit was 1994's "On Deadly Ground", which gets a whopping 3.5/10 stars on Internet Movie Database. Directed by Steven Seagal (oh, now I see) "On Deadly Ground" follows a "Mystical martial artist/environmental agent as he takes on a ruthless oil corporation."

* By 100 BC, Middle Eastern elephants were extinct.

* In 1967 Canada celebrated its Centennial year. I'll be 103 when the Bicentennial rolls around!

Awesome post. For some reason I like the one that tells us about your 100th day of the life the best.

Very cool.
