Summer Stock Sunday - 15

The other day when I stepped outside with my dog, I glanced to my right at the quince bush and had one of those lovely heart-swelling moments when I discovered another wonderful delight in our garden.

We've been in this house since 2001, and I brought two cuttings along with us from a well-established Japanese flowering quince that was in my gram's side yard. Last year we had one single fruit from the larger of the two bushes.

This year we have two!

For today's Summer Stock Sunday, come along with me as we watch the quince do its magical thing.

Once you understand that true garden beauty takes years, you've become a true gardener. (True gardeners have an eternal patience.) Congratulations! You've doubled your crop since last year. :-)

What a lovely bush. I've decided to plant an apple tree this year. I keep putting it off because it takes so long for them to become productive...but I realized the other day if I'd just planted one when we moved in I'd have apples by now. LOL

I've never seen quince growing. It looks like a lovely fruit in your photos.

I am pleased for you that your cuttings grew so well, but I don't really enjoy the taste of quinces.
Your garden looks great.

What a delight. I really enjoy beautiful gardens but I'm sadly utterly incapable of growing them myself. I can barely keep fake plants alive.

Akelamalu - I will always get an incredibly joyous, awed feeling when I discover something incredible in the garden. It's like being a kid and coming towards the tree on Christmas morning.

Josie Ray - I'm a very patient gardener, but my mom - with whom I live and who shares the garden with me - is an impatient gardener. It's actually a good blend because she takes care of splashy annuals for color.

Carolyn - My garden always makes me feel serene and renewed, but my mom - the impatient gardener - always seems to worry about things-to-do in the garden. But that's how she is. I just enjoy the garden.

Ms Snarky Pants - We've got three apple trees which my gram started as seedlings from a grocery store apple. So far no blossoms on any of them yet, and they are 8 years old now.

Leora - We've got a lot of quince in my neighborhood. It likes our damp, cool climate.

Joyce - I love playing in the dirt!

Glennis - I haven't actually eaten a quince ever before. It will be an adventure.

Robin - Gardens are to be experienced as well as grown. If you don't grow, just enjoy!
