Through the Opera Glasses - 37 - The Silver Chair

Today on my bus ride home from work, I found myself dreaming of The Silver Chair.

After The Horse and His Boy, it's my favorite of the Chronicles of Narnia. And if all goes well, it will be the fourth of the film adaptations of that series.

Of course, in my dreams Prince Rilian and his enchanted persona, the Black Knight would be played by Richard Armitage.

What say you?

I had all of those books as a kid and could never, ever get through any of them. I liked the story LWaW but only because I'd seen it on telly so many times. I watched most of the newer film version of it (LOVE Tilda Swinton) but I get very turned off by the "God" theme, if you know what I mean...

I have read a few books in this series and watched both movies. I can say I've enjoyed both the books/ movies so far. I look forward to seeing the rest of the movies in this series. Hopefully I'll sit down to read the rest of them as well. Have a great day.

Isabella - I adored these books as a kid and read and reread and reread them, even as an adult. I love Aslan as his own God figure and was annoyed to the extreme to learn that Christians were all over him as a Jesus substitute. Let's just let Aslan be Aslan, how about?

Meanwhile, The Silver Chair has a delirous Prince Rilian tied to the chair each night to hold back his ravings. You can see where my young mind got swept away with that...

Michelle - The previous versions of Narnia adaptations were hit-and-miss for me. The casting of Tom Baker as Puddleglum for the 1990 version of The Silver Chair was beyond perfection, for example. But the new film versions have been dreamy! Everything, everything has been perfect.

I remember an adaptation of the Chronicles, either on PBS or BBC. It was many years ago and it was quite enjoyable. That was actually my introduction to the books.

I've just come straight from watching Richard Armitage in Spooks to this post. His hair is shorter now :-)
A good actor.

Wonderful stories and I was so pleased with the two films so far...they seemed quite true to what I imagined as I read the stories. I've read them several times over the years! I'm sure many people have.

You got me to wondering if I have missed a film so I went searching. Ah, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will be released next December...a whole year to go!
