Heard the first song from this week's set on the radio, which led to my remembering how it felt to realize I'd fallen in love with my best friend. So I went in search of four more songs that captured that snuck-up-on-me feeling, that what-if-it-doesn't-work-out-and-I-lose-my-friend fear.

1 - Never Said I Loved You - The Payolas featuring Carole Pope

2 - Things I'll Never Say - Avril Lavigne

3 - Falling in Love (With My Best Friend) - Matt White

4 - Realize - Colbie Caillat

5 - Accidentally in Love - Counting Crows

Folks out here on Canada's east coast are looking forward to spring. More than the usual February-winter-blahs kind of looking forward to spring. Record-breaking snowfalls in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island have buried cars entirely and blocked homes up to the rooftops.

Here's an idea of the completely atypical snowfall over in PEI.

Here in Nova Scotia, we had a mix of snow and a heavy rainfall version of freezing rain, leaving us all encrusted in ice.

But in New Brunswick, there was more epic drifting. (Note: some swearing in this clip.)

So...

As an antidote to all of the white stuff that makes up the Great White North, for all of you who can't face even one more flake, here's a sunshine pop set to awaken dreams of spring.

1 - Stoned Soul Picnic - 5th Dimension

2 - The Rain, The Park and Other Things - The Cowsills

3 - Like to Get to Know You - Spanky and Our Gang

4 - Along Comes Mary - The Association

5 - Grazing in the Grass - Friends of Distinction

5 on Friday -- Set 258 / Happy 8th Anniversary to My Blog!

A Piece of My Mind turned 8 yesterday!

I'd like to say a very heartfelt thank you to all of my longtime readers. I have so many online friends that I met initially through the blogosphere, and my world is so much happier with all of you in it.

I thought I'd include the link to my very first blog post, as a little look back today:

And now, on to our regularly scheduled programming.

This year I'll be taking a once-a-month look at specific instruments and showcasing five songs or tunes which place that instrument front and center.

My new feature is called Spotlight On...

...and for our second installment, I'm looking at another of the primal body instruments. Here are five songs which shine a spotlight on whistling

1 - Young Folks - Peter Bjorn and John - 2006

2 - Trinity (Titoli) from the Django Unchained soundtrack - Annibale E I Cantori Moderni - 2012

3 - Colonel Bogey March from the Bridge on the River Kwai soundtrack - composed by Frederick J. Ricketts -- performed by The Mitch Miller Orchestra - original composition, 1914 (for the soundtrack, 1957)

4 - Magic Moments - Perry Como - 1957

5 - Don't Worry Be Happy - Bobby McFerrin - 1988
