I missed out on reading most of these, except Amelia Bedelia and Go Dog Go.
ReplyDeleteMy favourites were the Little House books and the All-of-a-Kind Family series. Read both series over and over. And thanks to ebay, I was able to buy the whole collection of the latter, which are really hard to find.
Oh, Amelia Bedelia ... we had such adventures when I was a kiddo!

ReplyDeleteWe are all about the Amelia Bedelia books in our house right now. It is funny how my hubby and I laugh at the funny jokes, and then we have to turn around and explain each of them to our first grader. He still likes them though and he can read them himself, which makes him proud.

I'm surprised we didn't overlap more in our favorites, my friend! I have a lot of my old books, and my kids are reading them. I can't decide if it's cool or embarrassing when they see my own childish scrawl in the covers...

Thorne - My husband special-ordered an Anatole book for me when he worked at a book store as a surpise for me. I couldn't believe that he'd remembered me telling him how much I'd loved those books when I was kid.
Thomma Lyn - that Blaze one in particular, finding a trail home in the forest - sometimes animal paths in the woods make me think back to that book.
Adelle - Dr. Seuss is definitely worthy of his own list for me!
David - now I wonder which three they are...?
Shelley - I love kids books now, too!
Nicholas - 'They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon' - what are the chances that these lines make me love my quince shrub so passionately?
Anthony - what on earth were you doing? Playing?
Hootin' Annie - yet some of the best books are the oldies-but-goodies.
Daisy - every single time I see a cream puff, I think of Amelia Bedelia.
Annette - I'll be doing another T13 on the older kids' books I loved (the chapter books.) Little House will make that list.
Kristi - Amelia has many admirers in this bunch!
Harriet - I read them to the girl whom I looked after, as her nanny. She loved them, too!
Kristi - the books deliver to the early reader and to the adult, which is quite a feat.
Brenda - whenever I see a certain type of pruned tree, I think to myself 'the Go, Dog. Go!' tree!'
Samulli - start from scratch - read some kids books and choose your favorites now!
Sarah - quite a few of these were ordered by my mom from a book club offer. I don't know how easy they were to get, otherwise.
Janet - those doll or puppet books were my favorites! My sister had a Cinderella one, and I had a Red Riding Hood one, but my cousin had the Owl and the Pussycat one.
All Rileyed Up - reunion is a perfect way to describe it.
Amy - Sumo has exquisite taste.

The Little Red Hen was my FAVORITE book as a toddler. A visiting relative thought I could read at two because I'd had the story read to me so many times I could recite it word for word while looking at the pictures.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother still talks about it over thirty years after reading it every day in my toddlerhood.

ReplyDeleteXakara - Hey! So glad to 'see' you! My mom still talks about a dinosaur book I insisted she read to me every single night when I was also a toddler. She used to try to skip stuff to get through it quicker, but I would always catch her up. Hey - get back there - you missed a part...
Heather - two of these were actually Julianne's books, the Miss Suzy squirrel one and the Owl and the Pussycat one. I read them over at Auntie's.

ReplyDeleteI remember Dr Seuss and Hardy Boys and Winnie the Pooh. I remember Bobbsey Twins. I even rememeber reading my sister's Trixie Belden books.
ReplyDeleteThen there were the children's classics like Robinson Crusoe and Robin Hood, Treasure Island and Kidnapped.
I also had a set of Disney encyclopedias that I absolutely loved. Reading was definitely fun!
