Poetry Train Monday - 139 - My Funny Valentine
Happy Valentine's Day!
I'm off for a romantic dinner with my sweetie. So for today's Poetry Train, I'd like to share with you my favorite Valentine's song, My Funny Valentine by Rodgers and Hart. It's sung here by the marvellous Gordon MacRae.

My Funny Valentine
My funny Valentine
Sweet comic Valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable, unphotographable
Yet you're my favorite work of art
Is your figure less than Greek?
Is your mouth a little weak?
When you open it to speak, are you smart?
But don't change a hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay little Valentine, stay
Each day is Valentine's Day
Is your figure less than Greek?
Is your mouth a little weak?
When you open it to speak, are you smart?
But don't change a hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay little Valentine, stay
Each day is Valentine's Day
- Lorenz Hart, 1937

ReplyDeleteHappy belated Valentine's Day
Hope you had a great Valentine's Day. Ours was a bit of a bust. Maybe next year we'll get it right!

ReplyDeleteHey there! I hope you check comments as impulsively as me, 'cause you're one of my OWOH giveaway winners- but the email in your profile bounced when I tried it! Get in touch with me? I need your address, and such. If I don't hear from you in 24 hours, I'll assume you're not interested anymore, alack, and choose someone else, but I rather like your answers, and do hope I hear from you...

Love songs from musicals are the best. I think my favorites are from Camelot. Thank you for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteBut, of course. One of THE most beautiful love songs of all time. Thank you, Julia! And thanks, always, for your visits.
