Thursday Thirteen - 23 - 13 of My Favorite Arts Related Words

After my immense genealogy TT last week, I decided Susan Helene Gottfried had a good thing going on when she did 13 of ShapeShifter's favorite words.

Then I bumped into a post over at Flowerpot Days where favorite words were offered up for appreciation. Both of these posts led me to today's TT:

  1. Aww, thanks for the link love, Julia! Glad I created some inspiration for you.

I don't think I would disagree with a single one of those words. They are wonderful, rich, and evocative of some very wonderful experiences in my own life.

    Happy TT, darling!

  4. I'm with you on libretto (complete with rolled 'r'), adagio (rolls off the tongue, that one), mythos (a word that sounds like it's meaning) and bibliophile (me!).

    Great words, all.

  5. I used to love "genre" until people started to overuse it and pronounce it with a hard G. Annoying.

  6. I love saying certain words, they just sort of roll off the tongue. This is a fantastic list. :)

  7. Carrie - funny how pronunciation really makes or breaks a word. For me, genre has to have the French pronunciation. Then it's intriguing.

  8. I like the way Susan described the words. My favorite, of course, is bibliophile. :D

  9. Hi Jul, I like all your words.. reminds me of our childhood together :> But I especially like recitative, having done a few in my life!

  10. I like filigree myself. Trilogy sometimes appears to confuse authors, though, because they'll try to cram 4 or 5 books into it.

  11. Most are new to me. Thanks for the list.

  12. My daughters are string players. My violist's favorite word is "solo" because violists rarely see that word in music :)

Great list, had to get out the music dictionary

    or 'hemisemidemi'

  14. Oh, I love all of those words -- especially the music-related ones -- and I'm so fond of Leitmotif I used it as a section name in one of my novels. :-D

Happy T13, and thanks for visiting mine!

  15. Everytime I hear the word choreography I think of the Danny Kaye bit from White Christmas.

    "There doing choreography,"

  17. I WANT #4. And #11 would be good for my 8yo to ponder. She's taking some basic Latin this year and enjoys trying to decipher word meanings.

  19. Those are all magnificent words, so rich... And the addition of the images really brings it all home.

(Sorry for the double-post, I've got this weird thing with my laptop where it occasionally sends comments off before I'm done.)
