I'm taking a one-week break from my book review Thursday Thirteens. I had to get a writing submission ready for a competition which I passed in on Monday, on my lunch hour. That didn't give me enough time to read the book I won from Amanda Ashby - You Had Me at Halo.
I'll be reviewing that next week, however, so make sure to stop by and find out why it's been nominated for a Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award.
This week I'm featuring 13 of my favorite fictional romantic couples.
1 - King Leonidas and Queen Gorgo from 300

2 - Ares and Xena from Xena: Warrior Princess

3 - King Arthur, Guinevere and Lancelot from King Arthur
This is actually a tragic love triangle - oh, how I love tragic love triangles!

Yes! Yes! Awesome list, Julia!!!
ReplyDelete(even if you forgot Trevor and himself. That's okay. I understand: No YouTube of it yet.)
That's a great list of fictional couples! You included many of my favorites, too. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat fodder here, Julia!
ReplyDeletehey- did you hear that Ares from Herc/Xena died? Some freak accident like falling off a balcony or something like that. I can't remember the details... it's all foggy. I'd google it but I'm too lazy.
Anyway - Rhett/Scarlett and Phantom/Christine tie for first in my book :)
You have some awesome movies on your list here, including some of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteYes, Wylie - I knew Kevin Smith, the actor who played Ares passed away, and I miss him a lot. My husband recently bought a season of 'Xena' and we watched it all the way through - we both realized how much we missed Ares the minute he walked onscreen. I love watching this video just so I can see him again.
ReplyDeleteJohn Thornton and Margaret Hale from North and South - one of my all time favorites. I can't wait to get this on DVD. Great list, Julia!
ReplyDeleteI loved Aragorn & Arwen in the books; not so much in the movies. Hated Rhett/Scarlett--I loathed Scarlett, and Rhett's obsession with her made me think less of him.
ReplyDeleteThoroughly enjoyed Han Solo & Princess Leia, though. :)
What a great list - what about Fred and Wilma Flintstone? ((wink))
ReplyDeleteI preferred the hinted at romance of X and G rather than X and A. Happy TT.
ReplyDeletePussreboots - I'd say the relationship is plainly spelled out between Xena and Gabrielle ;-) Though both women took male lovers at various points of the series. As someone who has a lifelong best friend, I tend to see my own female friendship reflected in Xena's & Gabrielle's relationship, especially since she has such a history with Ares and then with Borius (father of her son.)
ReplyDeleteBut if I was a gay viewer, I'd see Xena and Gabrielle as a groundbreaking couple, all right.
Wylie - just to mention, I didn't actually 'know' Kevin Smith, I just love his work and I knew of his death. I was so shocked, really, when it happened.
Yeah for Captain Wentworth. Yeah for Xena and Ares (I LOVED them)!!
ReplyDeleteThe only one I wouldn't agree with is Rhett Butler and Scarlett. She was such a biatch. LOL! Can't stand that movie.
All the others are perfection. :)
I just read Wylie's comment. ARES died ... ok now I am depressed.
ReplyDeleteYes, Amy - he fell about three stories from a movie set that he was working on. A weird accident and a fatal one. So bizarre that someone in such good shape can succumb to mere mortality - but he was only a fictional god, not a real one.
ReplyDeleteHa ha! No heard break this week... (Oh thank God! ;)) I love this list! I agree with every single one - Did you see the constant gardener? That's a great couple as well.
ReplyDeleteHappy TT - and hurray for TT theme rebellion! High five!
What a great list Julia. These are some seriously DEEP romances you picked here. Great list.
ReplyDeleteThere is some hot, there is some timeless couple in those! If I had to pick one, it would have to be pheonix and Wolferine... Hello, does Hugh can have a character more attractive than this one! And I like the one that does Jean in that one!
ReplyDeleteThat how Kevin Smith died Wylie? I knew he was death but didn't knew how!
And I really see some Xena nostalgia here!
