As you no doubt noticed, there wasn't a 5 on Friday set last week, as Brad was in surgery last Friday, having his appendix removed.

Although for Western calendars, the new year dawned on Jan. 1st, in the Chinese year it's still the Year of the Horse. For both Brad and me it's been a year of moving on, and even in these last weeks of Horse energy, we're leaving things behind that don't work for us any longer. Like his appendix!

Brad's at home now after spending six days in the hospital. It hadn't burst, but was hanging by a thread from doing just that, so he had a lot of abdominal infection and inflammation from which to recover.

This week's set goes out to all of our friends, near and far, who wished Brad a speedy recovery.

1 - All About Us - t.A.T.u.

2 - Yellow - Coldplay

3 - Lean on Me - Bill Withers

4 - Best Friend - Harry Nilsson

5 - Stand By You - The Pretenders

5 on Friday - Set 105

Travis at Trav's Thoughts invites everyone to lay down a short set of music that takes their fancies for his 5 on Friday meme.

Ah... Valentine's Day.

As a member of Romance Writers of Atlantic Canada, you know this is a favorite celebration for me.

Here are five love songs which I dedicate to my very own love.

1 - It's Only Love - The Beatles

2 - You're on My Mind - The Animals

3 - You Don't Have to Be a Star to Be in My Show - Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr.

4 - This Guy's in Love With You - Burt Bacharach

5 - Perfect Day - Harry Nilsson

5 on Friday - Set 8

Here is my third character sketch for the love triangle I'm currently writing about. So far you've been introduced to Peredur, a Dark Ages Welsh warrior who becomes a vampire, through Set 6.

Next you met Tanwen, the beloved of Peredur who is left behind in the human realm after his battlefield death, in Set 7.

Today I'm profiling Cavan, the son of the village wise woman, who has always lived in a state of unrequited love for Tanwen. The sequence of five songs runs along Cavan's character arc for the story.

For more great tunes, and if you want to play along, visit Travis at Trav's Thought's.

1 - Without Her - Harry Nilsson

I spend the night in a chair thinking she'll be there
But she never comes
And I wake up and wipe the sleep from my eyes
And I rise to face another day
Without her

And it sounds like a lie
I said I'd rather die than live without her
Without her, I can't go on
There's no song without her

- Ham / Evans

2 - Voodoo Child (Slight Return) - Jimi Hendrix

Well, I stand up next to a mountain
And I chop it down with the edge of my hand
Well, I pick up all the pieces and make an island
Might even raise a little sand

Cause I'm a voodoo child

If I don't meet you no more in this world, then, uh
I'll meet ya on the next one
I'm a voodoo child baby
I don't take no for an answer

- the Jimi Hendrix Experience

3 - I'm Going Home - Tim Curry

Free to try and find a game
Dealing cards for sorrow
Cards for pain

Cause I've seen blue skies
Through the tears in my eyes
And I realize
I'm going home

O'Brien / Sharman

4 - I Don't Care If the Sun Don't Shine - Elvis Presley

Well I don't care if the sun don't shine
I get my lovin' in the evening time
When I'm with my baby

Well, it ain't no fun with the sun around
I get going when the sun goes down
And I'm with my baby

- Mack David

5 - See Me Feel Me - The Who

See me
Feel me
Touch me
Heal me

Listening to you
I get the music
Gazing at you
I get the heat
Following you
I climb the mountain
I get excitement at your feet

- Pete Townshend

Jamie says Tim Curry, Harry Nilsson and Elvis in one set - Now that's creative thinking.

Marina says Jimi Hendrix is my favorite ever!!!! I have all his albums/CDs. I also enjoyed The Who. Great set!

Travis says That is fascinating. I love how you make this work for you in your writing.
