This shot was taken 25 years ago when the Russian four masted barque, the Kruzenshtern, sailed into Sydney Harbour (Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, that is) during the Tall Ships festival.
Tomorrow - Thursday, July 16th - the Kruzenshtern will once again return to Nova Scotia when she sails into my home port of Halifax. I'm beside myself with excitement!!!
For the story of the special place this ship has in my heart, check out my Poetry Train Monday post below, and join me Thursday for 13 Things About the Most Romantic Story You'll Ever Hear.
Tell Michelle I hope Rashid is on the Kruzenshtern so they can be reunited again. Even if it is to just say hello. Love that picture. Hope all is well.
Have a great time tomorrow/ Thursday. Hope its everything you and Michelle are expecting. Good night~
How exciting, Julia, and what an amazing picture. I loved your Poetry Train Monday post -- so romantic. :)
Have a wonderful time on Thursday!
I really love tall ships, although I'm not sure that I'd want to travel halfway around the world in one. Great photo, Julia.
Beautiful.. The ship and the poetry... I do have to admit that while I'm a little crazy at times; I don't think I would be able to climb out on the mast like that...
Michelle - My sister said, 'We'd better bring Kleenex' as we made plans to go aboard together.
Thomma Lyn - I'm counting the seconds!
Shelley - I love tall ships so passionately, but I have a healthy respect for the power of the sea. I've read online that the Kruzenshtern lost half of its front mast in bad weather as it sailed up the eastern seaboard these past weeks - and then I saw a picture of it. :-(
Brooke - I'm glad no one's ordering me aloft!
Oh how cool if there was a reunion!!
Squee!!
Great to see the ship I got to know through your post the other day. I am still excited to hear if there will be a reunion ;o) How much fun would that be?!
What a dramatic shot! Great angle LOL
Hoping to get down to see some of the tall ships tomorrow.
